Modena Miller

Waynesville, Modena Elizabeth Chambers Miller, age 85, of Coleman Mountain Road, passed away on Monday, November 22, 2010 at Smoky Mountain Health Care. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Walter Corbett and Rebecca Mae Queen Chambers. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Reverend William Don Miller, who passed away in 1983; one sister, Mary Ellen Painter; three brothers, Corbett, Walker, and John Wesley Chambers; and son-in-law, Reverend Ray Willett. She was a member of Jonathan Valley Baptist Church where she served as the adult ladies Sunday School Teacher, was a member of the church choir, and also served as the church historian. Mrs. Miller worked at Belks, Calvary Book Room, and at K-Mart. She enjoyed her church work, flowers, sewing, and cooking, and loved her children and grandchildren. She is survived by a son, Dean Miller and his wife, Reta, of Waynesville; three daughters, Ilene Willett and husband, the late Reverend Ray Willett, June McCracken and her husband, Thad, and Donna Jean Plemmons and her husband, Davis, all of Waynesville; 11 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and 1 step great-great grandson. Funeral services will be held at Jonathan Valley Baptist Church at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 with Reverend Davis Plemmons, Reverend Chris Willett, and Reverend Barry Willett officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to services at the church. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Miller, Jeffery, Jason, and Chad Plemmons, Scott Willett, Jason Herbert, and Chad Shipman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721. Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Waynesville is in charge of arrangements.
