Canton- Monroe Harrison Conard, Sr. - age 86 died Monday, July 17, 2006 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was born in Knox County, Tennessee but had lived in Haywood County for all his life. He was a son of the late Glenn Wesley and Bertha Morrow Conard and husband of the late, Mary Pope Conard. Mr. Conard was preceded in death by two sisters, Viola Conard and Hazel Haney; one brother, Raymond Conard; one son, Monroe Harrison "Bud" Conard, Jr. and one granddaughter, Beverly Conard Bradley. He was employed with Champion International Paper with 30+ years of service, a member of Morning Star United Methodist Church, and a United States Army veteran of World War II. Harrison was a rock hound and enjoyed making jewelry. He loved to hunt for ramps and also crafted musical instruments and hog rifles. He is survived by one grandson, Andy Conard and his wife, Diana, of Canton; one daughter-in-law, Mary Brooks Conard, of Canton; two great grandchildren, Morgan Elizabeth Conard and Curtis Michael Bradley; two sisters, Zora Messer, of Bethel and Wilma Sorrells and her husband, J.R., of Canton; two brothers, John A. Conard and his wife, Louise, of Leicester and Cecil Conard and his wife, Dora Jane, of Alabama. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2006 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Doug Love and Reverend J.D. Grant officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 Thursday evening at the funeral home and other times the family will be at the Dutch Cove Home.
