"1932 - 2017 Candler - Monteen A. Wilson, 84, of Candler, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2017, at her residence. She was a native of Cherokee County and a daughter of the late Enoch N. and Mae (Stiles) Allen of Murphy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Wilson, to whom she was married for fifty-eight years. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen A. Taylor of Candler and Geraldine A. Sanders of Columbia, TN. Surviving are her sons, Glenn Wilson (Carolyn) and Ricky Wilson of Candler, as well as a grandson, John Wilson (Tammy) also of Candler; granddaughters, Misty Deyo (Eddie) and Christy Frisbee (Mark), as well as four great grandchildren, Evan and Claire Deyo and Benjamin and William Frisbee all of Raleigh; four sisters, Shirley A. Griffith of Murphy, Jane A. Barnett of Marietta, GA, Eula A. Moore (Wendell) of Hayesville, and Linda A. White (Jim) of Clyde; one sister-in-law, Nancy Wilson, of Candler, and several nieces and nephews. After graduating from Hiawassee Dam High School, where she was valedictorian of the class of 1949, Monteen moved to the Morgan Cove Community in Candler, where she resided until her death. In August 1967, she graduated with highest honors from the Licensed Practical Nursing Program at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College. Shortly thereafter, she began working as an LPN at Memorial Mission Hospital where she worked until her retirement twenty years later. She was a member for sixty-seven years at Ridgeway Baptist Church where she taught Vacation Bible School for several years and was a faithful member of the Nannie Muse Sunday School Class as long as her health would allow her to attend. She always had a servant's heart and stood ready to help a family member, friend, or neighbor anytime there was a need. She enjoyed cooking, baking, quilting, and crocheting. After her retirement, she enjoyed camping in Oconee, SC, with her husband and grandchildren as well as traveling with Christian Tours. She especially enjoyed being accompanied by her grandson on trips to Disney World, Washington, D.C. and Branson, MO. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Ridgeway Baptist Church in Candler with Rev. Jack Collins officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be at the residence at 38 Cold Mountain Drive in Candler. They would like to extend a special thanks to her caregivers, Susan Passmore, Sandra Epley, and Karen Wilson, whose care and devotion was such a comfort to her during her declining health. Memorials may be made to Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery Fund at 525 Old US 19/23 Hwy, Candler, NC 28715. Wells Funeral Home in Canton is charge of arrangements.
