Clyde-Morris Jay Surrett, age 70, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2007 at his home in Clyde. He was the son of the late Q.T. and Rachael Hipps Surrett and was also preceded in death by two sons, Ricky and Jeffrey Surrett; one brother, Luther Surrett and one sister, Bonnie Carver. He was a member of Rocky Branch Baptist Church and worked at the Unagusta Plant in Waynesville until he became a roofing and vinyl siding contractor for all of WNC. Morris enjoyed his work and taught all five of his boys his trade. All five loved working beside their Dad. He loved being with his family and friends and spending time outdoors. He will be missed by us all. Though he has gone from this earth, he will remain in our hearts and memories forever. Morris is survived by his wife of 32 years, Patricia Surrett; a daughter, Phyllis Surrett Covington of Kentucky; three sons, Gregory Surrett and wife, Ann of Clyde, Ryan Surrett and his wife, Gracie of Clyde, Scotty Surrett and his wife, Donya of Buncombe County; three sisters, Mable Brown and her husband, Sam of Waynesville, Louise Carver of Canton and Marie Gentry of Spring Creek; two brothers, Max Surrett and Golar Surrett and his wife, Liza, all of Waynesville; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2006 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Gentry, Kenny and Joey Lanning, Dean Brown, Jack Allen, Roger James, and Scott Dodson.
