Muriel Jones

Muriel Renee Smith Jones, age 56 of Candler passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Memorial Mission Hospital. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Percy and Virginia Casey Smith. Muriel lived most of her life in Queens, New York before making her home in the mountains of North Carolinas in 2010. She retired from the Queensborough Public Library as a customer service supervisor and was a dedicated member of the Springfield Gardens United Methodist Church in Jamaica Queens, New York. Muriel was an inspiration of hope and strength to those who knew her. She had an infectious smile and optimistic outlook that made everyone around her shine and look to the best in everyone and in every situation. Through the trials she faced with her illness, she showed incredible courage, strength and grace never once complaining. Muriel leaves behind a lasting legacy of positive encouragement and tremendous strength to those who knew and loved her. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 6 years, Bernard M. Jones; sister, Ladell Smith Baker of Jamaica Queens, New York; aunt, Juanita Casey of Waynesville, NC and a host of cousins, extended family and special friends. Celebration of life service for Muriel will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
