Myrtle Brooks

April 1, 1918 — July 24, 2003

Waynesville-Myrtle Lola Fraser Brooks, age 85, died Thursday, July 24, 2003 at her residence.

A native of Fort Ogden, Florida, she had resided in Haywood County since 1983. She was the daughter of the late James Benjamin Fraser and Grace Naylor Fraser. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lee Brooks in 1990 and two brothers, Russell E. Fraser and James Benjamin Fraser, Jr. She was a graduate of Florida Southern University of Lakeland, Florida. She then worked for the U.S. Farm and Home Administration in the State of Florida for several years and retired as an elementary and high school teacher having been employed by the Palm Beach County School System. She was a member of Waynesville First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Asbury Sunday School Class. She was also very active in the PEO Sisterhood.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara G. Brooks of Lake Worth, Florida and Waynesville and Betty G. Brooks Costello and her husband, Terence, of Arlington, Virginia; a sister, Bertha Josephine ''B.J.'' Freeman of Waynesville; six grandchildren, Neil, Richard, and Robert Squire, and Catherine Grace, Mary Margaret, and Patrick Fraser ''Bubbi'' Costello; and two great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 28, 2003 at Waynesville First United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. W. Lyn Sorrells and Reverend John Christy officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
