Myrtle Burgess

Myrtle Ruth Harris Burgess, 91, of Leicester, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 27, 2015. A native of Barnardsville, she was the daughter of the late Jesse James Harris and Lillie Allen Harris. Myrtle's favorite hymn was "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be" and she was a member of the Barnardsville Church of God. She worked for GM Fisher Body, Detroit, Michigan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Ray; infant son, Glenn Avery Ray; grandsons, Jose Luis Cadenas and Edward Thomas Smith III; sisters, Katherine Norton, Bonnie Whittemore and Helen Watson.
She is survived by her son, Teddy D. Ray; daughters, Lillie Juanita Garcia and Virginia Lynn Jackson-Martin; sisters, Alice Fulp, Irene Hunnicutt, Virginia Whittemore; brother, Franklin Harris; grandchildren, Gene, Brenda, Janice, Jeff, Greg, Becky, Michael, Christina, David, Gabriel, Chrysaundra, Phillip and Tiffany; several great and great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday (today) from 6-8PM in the Chapel of Faith, Moore Funeral Home at Forest Lawn, Candler. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, May 30 at Barnardsville Church of God with Rev. Daniel Reed officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the Church. Burial will follow at Harris Family Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
