Myrtle King

Waynesville - Myrtle S. King, age 81, of the Ratcliff Cove Community went to live with Jesus on Monday, August 27, 2007 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a daughter of the late Vinson Winfield and Mary Elizabeth Rathbone Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, James King, who died in 2003; son-in-law, Perry Woody; one sister, Mae Inman; and one brother, Roy Smith. Myrtle was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church and she loved her family, cooking, and quilting. She was an avid gardener and had many other hobbies to fulfill her days. She is survived by four daughters, Shirley Coward and her husband, Tracy, Mary Bishop and her husband, Roger, all of Clyde, Sue Trantham and her husband, Johnny, of Canton, and Brenda Woody of Clyde; two sons, Allen King wife, Linda, and Roger King and his wife, Delores, all of Clyde; two sisters, Irene King and Bulah Chambers and her husband, Ernest, all of Clyde; and one brother, Wayne Smith of Canton; 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2007 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Winfred Bennett and Reverend Daryl Hannah officiating. Burial will follow in Center Pigeon Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at 3384 Ratcliff Cove Road in Waynesville. Memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
