Waynesville, Nancy Phillips Massie, age 73, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at CarePartners Hospice Solace Center. She was a native of Asheville, but lived most of her youth in Waynesville and was the daughter of the late Noel and Evelyn Philips. Nancy attended Waynesville Township High School and graduated from Central High School in Knoxville, Tennessee. She then went to UNC at Greensboro before getting married. Nancy was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Waynesville where she loved her church and her Faith Sunday School Class. She is survived by her husband, Tom Massie; three daughters, Kim Shuford and her husband, Jeff, of Waynesville, Kristy Henson and her husband, Scott, of Asheville, and Kathy Garrett and her husband, Blake, of Fountain Inn, South Carolina; one son, Kevin Massie and his wife, Rebecca, of Waynesville; six grandchildren, Will Shuford, Ashley and Aaron Henson, Oakley and Wade Garrett, and Megan Massie. Nancy loved her children and grandchildren. Much of her life was spent doing for them. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She and Tom were blessed to have 54 years together and look forward to being reunited in Heaven for eternity. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with the Reverend Sanford L. Giles, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
