Waynesville-Nannie Marie Smith Freeman, age 82, died Tuesday, December 7, 2004. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Reba Elsie Cabe Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howell William Freeman, Sr. who died in 1984; two brothers, Jack and John Smith; and a sister, Fannie Parris. She was employed by Dayco and worked in the Plastic Hose Department and was a member of Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Reba Ann Gibson, and her husband, Kenneth, of Morganton; a son, Howell Freeman, Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Waynesville; a foster son, Richard Joseph Cogdill, of Waynesville; two sisters, Opal Sutton, of Waynesville and Coleen Oxner of Clyde; a brother, Arthur "Bud" Smith, of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2004 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Paul Carden officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike and Butch Franklin, Steve Siske, Ronnie Brookshire, Shane Gibson, and Greg Freeman.
