Waynesville, Nathaniel Tyler Dyer, age 22, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2016. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of Cynthia Long, of Waynesville. Nathan was a duly sworn deputy sheriff and detention officer with the Haywood County Sheriff's Office. Nathan had a great love for his family's property on Coleman Mountain. He enjoyed hunting the land with his friends and grandfather. Nathan's engaging personality and caring demeanor will forever be remembered and never forgotten. In addition to his mother, he is survived by grandparents, Eddie and Ellarae Whitten of Shallotte, North Carolina; great grandparents James Lee and Ellen Justice, of Waynesville; one sister Katie Long, affectionately known as "Gooby", of Waynesville; great uncle, Robert Messer, and his wife, Misty, of Waynesville; cousins, Brittany and Brandon Steppleton, McKenzie Long, all of Waynesville; and his beloved dog and best friend, Gravy. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2016 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Byrd and Reverend Jerry Nelson officiating. Ceremonial rites will be provided by the Haywood County Sheriff's Office. A private burial will be held at the family cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Haywood County Sheriff's Office, 1620 Brown Avenue, Waynesville, NC 28786, in memory of Nathan Dyer.
