Neil Ledford, Jr.

Waynesville, Neil David Ledford, Jr., age 74, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at The Homestead surrounded by his daughters, son-in-law and grandchildren. A native of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, he was the son of the late Neil David and Gladys Emma Ricker Ledford, Sr. David enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing and also the sports of baseball and basketball. One of his favorite times of the year was cheering on the Duke Blue Devils during collegiate basketball season. David's other hobbies included collecting coins, stamps and baseball cards. A proud patriot, he served his country honorably in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion. David retired from BASF with 30 years of service. David is survived by two daughters; Candis Ledford, and her husband, Richard DiRocco, of Maggie Valley and Sherry Ledford, of Waynesville; five sisters, Margaret Jones, Patty Dewitt, Cheryl Roten, Joy McFarland and Carol Bolden, all of Waynesville; three grandchildren, Jeremy DiRocco, Marie Armstrong and Heather Justice; a close friend, Gary Justice; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Fines Creek United Methodist Church with Reverend DeVere Williams officiating.
