Nelle Edwards

Lake Junaluska, Nellie Mehaffey Edwards, age 94, died Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Mission Hospital Campus. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late William Lawson Mehaffey and Maude McClure Mehaffey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Edwards, Jr. in 1995, a son, Joe Edwards, one brother James Clinton Mehaffey and a sister Ida Caldwell. She retired as a secretary from Mountain Projects and was a member of Longs Chapel United Methodist church and of the Link 2 Womens Group. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi (Masters), and the Haywood Regional Medical Center Auxillary. She is survived by a grandson, Robert Edwards and his wife, Sarah of Lake Junaluska and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2008 at Longs Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Charles W. "Churck" Wilson, II officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Longs chapel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 459, Lake Junaluska, NC 28745.
