Nellie Kirkpatrick

December 19, 1922 — May 4, 2016

Waynesville, Nellie Mae Plemmons Kirkpatrick, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at The Homestead. A native of Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Ogle and Annie Davis Plemmons. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Kirkpatrick, who died in 1987; two grandchildren, Wendy Sellers and Drew Anderson; two sisters, Ethel Gentry and Cartie Davis; and one brother, Everett Plemmons. Nellie retired as an Operating Room Technician with Haywood Regional Medical Center in 1987. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Nellie's quote to remember "boys and girls are some of my favorite people." Nellie was a caring and compassionate woman of God. During her tenure at Haywood Regional Medical Center she was the recipient of the "Care Bear" award, and was a gentle presence for the children at the hospital. Nellie was also a gifted craftswoman; she knitted, crocheted and quilted for all the family. She will be remembered for her cleanliness, but most importantly, for her unconditional love toward friends and family. Nellie is survived by one daughter; Betty Anderson, and her husband, Edward, of Kingston, Tennessee; one son, Danny Kirkpatrick, and his wife, Barbara, of Clyde; one sister, Lou Greene, and her husband, Walter, of Kingston, Tennessee; two brothers, Dennis Plemmons, and his wife, Jane, of Kingston Tennessee, Glen Plemmons, and his wife, Betty, of Candler; five grandchildren, Ben and John Kirkpatrick, Patrick Ewart, Whitney Schmidt and Tyson Anderson; ten Great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Reverend Harry Worley, Reverend Garry Rogers, Reverend Jerry Nelson, Reverend Ted Reeves and Reverend Bob Boggan officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford-Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorials may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, Suite 200, Bethesda, Maryland 20814, in honor of her great granddaughter Brooke Putnam.
