Nellie Nichols

Waynesville, Nellie Jenkins Nichols, age 89, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at the Mooresville Center in Mooresville, North Carolina. A native and former resident of Haywood County's White Oak Community, she was the daughter of the late Oliver P. Jenkins and Vinnie Davis Jenkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Elex Nichols, who died in 1993; two brothers, Iolet and Richard Clem Jenkins; and five sisters, Sally Goforth, Carrie Early, Laura Ruff, Arbie Rathbone, and Della Smathers. Nellie loved to hunt, fish, and picnic with the love of her life, Bill, as well as hike the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. She was a member of White Oak Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Faith Nichols Cogdill and her husband, Sam, of Mooresville; two sisters, Willa Belle Moody and Ollie Mae Morgan, both of Waynesville; one brother, William Swan Jenkins and his wife, Hilda, of Waynesville; two grandchildren, Steve Cogdill and his wife Terri, and Shannon Vaughn; three great grandchildren, Christen Ferreby, and Morgan and Payton Vaughn; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, January 28, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Billy Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until Noon prior to services at the funeral home.
