Loving Mother and Grandmother Waynesville, Nellie Sawyer Rogers, age 81, of Allens Creek Road, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Autumn Care Nursing Home. A native of Swain County, she had lived most of her life in Haywood County and was the daughter of the late Charlie McKinley and Ina Burris Sawyer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Milburn R. Rogers, Jr., who died in 1998, and two brothers, Lester and Lewis Sawyer. Nellie was a former sales clerk in the shoe department of Sky City and was a member of Cove Creek Baptist Church. Nellie enjoyed singing in church and being with friends, family, and especially her grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter, Geneva Putnam (Gary); one son, David Rogers (Darlene); a sister, Shirley Trull; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Sawyer; four grandsons, Kelly Rogers (Jennifer) and Keith Rogers (Pam) and Ryan Putnam (Amanda) and Aaron Putnam (Natasha), and three great grandchildren, Nathan and Natalie Rogers and Everlee Putnam. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Chad Ellege, Reverend Gary Putnam, and Reverend Billy Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Branch Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Kelly and Keith Rogers, Ryan and Aaron Putnam, Jason Stepp, and Doyle Teague. Honorary pallbearers will be Nathan Rogers and Case Cody. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. The family wishes to thank the staff of Autumn Care and Hospice for the loving care they gave to Nellie.
