Nellie Scott

August 6, 1924 — April 1, 2013

"Her Departing Words, 'I Love You'." Canton – Nellie Scott, age 88, of the Beaverdam Community passed away to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, April 1, 2013 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home following an extended illness. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Will and Nannie Sorrells. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Charles Edward Scott, who died in 1973, and two brothers, Jack and Bud Sorrells. Nellie was a godly woman who loved her family, friends, and her church, Beaverdam United Methodist Church, where she was a member. She was devoted to her faith and lived her life as a dedicated Christian. She was an inspiration to those around her, and will be remembered for her love and kindness shown to all who knew her. She will be missed and cherished by all of us for the unending love and compassion that she provided for her family and friends. We were blessed with her presence on this earth for eight-eight years, and can now find some consolation in the fact that she is now in a much better place, in the presence and care of her Lord. She is survived by her daughter, Diana Scott Buckner and her husband, David, of Canton; a son, David Wayne Scott and his wife, Debra, of Union, South Carolina; two granddaughters, Aleshia Scott Gruver and her husband Jank, Andrea Scott and Jason Proctor; two great-grandchildren, Breana Proctor and Hayden Meadows, all of Union, South Carolina; one sister, Bessie Shepard of Candler; several nieces and nephews; and two special caregivers, Betty Watkins and Carolyn Cannon, who she loved dearly. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Beaverdam United Methodist Church with the Reverend Martha Buff Welch and Reverend Billie W. Cranfield officiating. Burial will follow at the Beaverdam Community Cemetery at the church. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Beaverdam United Methodist Church, 80 Rice Cove Road, Canton, NC 28716.
