Nina Jones

August 11, 1913 — December 19, 2005

Canton- Nina Martha Crisp Poss Jones- age 92 of Ivy Hill Health and Retirement Center went to be with her Lord on Monday, December 19, 2005. She was a native of Graham County and the daughter of the late Charles Calvin and Clara Magnolia Taylor Crisp. Her family moved to Haywood County in 1922 when she was a child. She was a graduate of Canton High School. When Nina was married to Earl Poss they lived in Washington, Georgia until he was tragically killed in a traffic accident. Later she moved back to Haywood County where she went to work at Champion Papers until she retired in 1975. Later, she married Ernest A. Jones. After he passed away and Nina's health declined she moved to Brevard in 2002 to be near her step-son. She was a life-long member of West Canton Baptist Church where she was a youth leader for years, taught Sunday school, was treasure, held many other offices and enjoyed the Good Life Club. She was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Otis, Roy, Malcomb, Archie and Cay ; two sisters, Elva Crisp Cable and Lexie Crisp Lance and one step daughter, Marie Jones Smith and her husband Carroll Smith. She is survived by one step son James Ernest Jones and his wife Betty; 5 step grandchildren, Darlene Jones Bailey, Brenda Smith Whitner, James Ernest Jones, Jr., Michael Edwin Smith and David Ernest Smith; 9 step great-grandchildren, Chip and Wesley Bailey, Jamie Jones, Shannon and Mitchell Whitner, Jody and Jennifer Smith and Daniel and Emily Smith; 3 step great great-grandchildren, Kurstain, Addison and Cade Trantham and lots of special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2005 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend W.O. "Bill" Henson, Reverend Jack Holland and Reverend Charles Cable officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to West Canton Baptist Church Building Fund, 75 Lowe Street, Canton, NC 28716.
