Norma Jean Winchester Womack

Norma Jean Winchester Womack went to be with the Lord on March 1, 2024.  A life-long resident of Haywood County, she was born October 31, 1934, in Hazelwood to the late Bill and Allie Whitner Winchester.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Harold Winchester.  

She is survived by her husband of 67 years: Charles; children: Lisa, Dan (Elizabeth), and Patrick (Kathy); grandchildren:  Joe (Faith), Ben, and Sarah (Hunter); great-grandchildren, Winchester, Sutton, and Ethan; sister: Pat Caldwell (Harley).  

A 1953 graduate of Waynesville Township Highschool, she was also a Mission Belle, graduating from the Mission Hospital School of Nursing in 1956.  She was for several years a nurse at the Haywood County Hospital and later in the office of Dr. James Fender.  She went on to serve at the Haywood County Health Department, which included being a public-school nurse.  She was a life-long member of the Hazelwood Presbyterian Church and was devoted to her family.    

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Hazelwood Presbyterian Church with Pastors Patrick Womack and Steve Muzio officiating.  Norma Jean will be lying in state between 11:00 a.m. until service time in the church sanctuary.   Burial will follow the service at Green Hill Cemetery.   A reception to honor Norma Jean’s life will follow the graveside service at Laurel Ridge Country Club at 2:00 p.m.
