Norma Thomason

"1934 – 2015" Canton – Norma Lou Jones Thomason, age 81, of the Henson Cove Community, went to be with Jesus on Friday, October 23, 2015 where she reunited with the love of her life and soulmate, Bobby James Thomason. Norma never met a stranger and was affectionately known in the community as "Squirt". She was born on January 5, 1934 to the late Wallace and Mary Jones. Norma played basketball at Bethel and was part of the team that won the State Championship in 1952. She was also the first Miss Haywood County in 1950. Norma was an avid sports fan whose favorite teams included the Tennessee Vols, Tarheels, Braves, Yankees, Raiders, and Saints. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Mary Grogan Jones; Her husband of 54 years, Bobby J. Thomason; a son, Eddie Jones; and a half-brother, Kenneth A. "Root" Jones.. She is survived by four daughters, Tina LaBorde (Pat), of Louisiana, Tammie Ingle (Robert), of Canton, Terri Holifield, missing since 2006, and Tiffany Thomason (Becca), of Waynesville; one son, Travis Thomason (Joni), of Georgia; six grandchildren, Matthew, Jeremy, Ali, Tiffany Alexis, Ava, and Jaylynn; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Shepard of Waynesville; one brother, Dickie Jones of Canton; and her beloved companion of 15 years, Baby Dog. Norma will also be sadly missed by three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Lauada Cemetery in Bryson City with the Reverend Carlton Shelton officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. In lieu of flowers, Norma would appreciate donations being made to the Canton Senior Center and her extended family there, Old Armory Building, Canton, NC 28716.
