Nyal Plemmons

"Loving Husband, Daddy, & Pop" Canton – Nyal West Plemmons, 79, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus, on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at his residence. A native and life-long resident of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Devallen Stewart "D.S." and Ova West Plemmons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Cameron M. Plemmons; and a sister, Valerie Plemmons McIntosh. Nyal was owner and operator of Plemmons Concrete for many years. Nyal grew up in Canton and was married to the love of his life, Glenda Queen Plemmons. They were married for 53 years and together ran Nyal Plemmons Contracting and Plemmons Concrete for over 50 years. Nyal was a past member of Company A 130th signal Battalion of the National Guard. His long service to Haywood County will be forever remembered as a charter member of the Haywood County Rescue Squad and was one of the first voluntary paramedics in the nation. He served the citizens of Haywood County faithfully for many years answering calls assisting medical needs. Nyal and Glenda enjoyed many years in Lakeland, Florida and served the Lord at Crestview Baptist Church in Lakeland, Florida. Nyal enjoyed working and doing anything with his hands, working on his heavy equipment and working with his radios. He loved his family and devoted his life to them. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Glenda Queen Plemmons; one son, Chad Plemmons of Canton; one daughter, Nylenda Heatherly and husband, Danny, of Canton; one sister, Zira Welch of Canton; and three grandchildren, Nathan, Natalie, and Noah Heatherly. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Danny Heatherly and Nathan Heatherly officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at his residence. Pallbearers will be Noah Heatherly, Doug Crawford, Keith Queen, Matthew Hamlett, Joel Maney, and Travis Donaldson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lake Logan/Cecil Fire Department, 4291 Lake Logan Road, Canton, NC 28716. Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens is located on Highway 19/23 in Clyde, NC.
