O. Chambers, Jr.

"1931 – 2017" Canton – Oscar Cornelus "O.C." Chambers, Jr., 86, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017 at John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Oscar Cornelus, Sr. and Etta Smathers Chambers. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by four brothers, Hascue "Dick", Frank, Elwood, and Bill Chambers; and three sisters, Reba Chambers, Pauline Phelps and Lucy Vetitoe. He retired from Champion International as a truck driver and was a member of Pisgah Free Will Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Doris Parks Chambers; a daughter, Gail C. Smith of Asheville; two sons, Roger D. Chambers of Canton and Terry M. Chambers of Robbinsville. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. A graveside committal service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at New Cruso Cemetery with Pastor Jake Cagle officiating.
