Oberia Crawford

August 17, 1915 — March 7, 2006

Canton- Oberia Burrell Crawford - age 90 died Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at Canton Christian Convalescent Center. She was a native of Haywood County and had lived here most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Sydney Ellis and Lelia Frady Burrell. Mrs. Crawford was preceded in death by her husband, William Taft Crawford who died in 1986; three sisters, Faye Knight, Mae Lee Crawford and an infant sister; two brothers, Raymond and Leonard Burrell and two daughters, Doris Crawford Baxter and Wilma Sue Crawford Dills who both died in 2004. She was a homemaker and a member of the Phillipsville "Original" Church of God. For many years, Oberia played the accordion and sang with her husband, Taft in a local bluegrass band, The Haywood Ramblers. Aside from her musical talents, Oberia loved to cook, can, garden, fish and travel. She also loved animals and the outdoors. She was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and looked forward to the start of baseball season each year. In recent years, she joined the Red Hat Society and enjoyed playing Bingo. She loved her "granddogs". She was a woman of deep faith who had a wonderful sense of humor and a zest for life. She is survived by one granddaughter, Jeannie Jump and her husband John of Irmo, SC; three sisters, Genevieve Bradley of Arden, Betty Jo Pless and Loretha Sayles both of Bethel; three brothers, James Burrell of Tennessee, Lewin Burrell and Brownloe Burrell both of Canton and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 10, 2006 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Johnny Albertson officiating, among others. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
