"1923 – 2017" Canton – Oberia Raines Haley, 93, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at her residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Hector Albert and Minnie Smith Raines. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Ray M. Haley, who passed away in 2003; a daughter, Sharon Louise Blankenship, who passed away in 2011; a step-mother, Blanche Raines; three brothers; and two sisters. In addition to Oberia's love for sewing and quilting, she supported the efforts of the NC National Guard's 30th Signal Company and their annual reunions because of her husband's 30 years of dedicated service. She was a member of West Canton Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, Dennis Ray Haley and his wife, Darlene; seven grandchildren, Andy, Keeta, and Ryan Blankenship, Jason and Anna Haley, Annie Bryant, and Jocie Queen; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at West Canton Baptist Church with the Reverend Jonathan Blaylock officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Wells Funeral Home in Canton.
