Ocie Trantham Swanger, age 89, formerly of Canton, died Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Madison County and had lived in Haywood County for most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Juddie and Hattie Woody Trantham and was also preceded in death by a daughter Vickie Swanger Collins who died in 1969 and two brothers Lester and Garland Trantham. She retired from K-Mart in sales and was formerly employed at Raiffs Dept. Store in Canton. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter and her husband Gloria and Ed Jenkins of Asheville, two sons and their wives Lewis and Rosemary Swanger of Canton and Jerry and Jewel Swanger of Clyde, three sisters Ollie Shuler of Canton, Ann Wike of Catawba, NC and Jean Morgan of Franklin, NC, one brother Carroll Trantham of Clyde, 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandsons and several loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2005 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services. Reverend Jack W. Collins will officiate. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
