Ola Sutton

Waynesville, Ola Beatrice Rathbone Sutton, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at her residence.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Ruben and Bidie Messer Rathbone; in addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Sutton, who died in 1992; son Donnie Sutton; two sisters, Annie Birchfield and Blanche Garland; and three brothers, Homer, Lewis & Shook Rathbone.  Ola was a member of Waynesville 7th Day Adventist Church.  She enjoyed gardening and her flowers.  She was affectionately known as Granny to friends and family on Sutton Town where she resided for 70 years.  Ola worked tirelessly on the farm with her husband, Lloyd but was always available to her family.  One of her most treasured times was baking her famous biscuits for all to enjoy.

Ola is survived by a daughter, Kathy Sutton; three sons, Burl Sutton, and his wife, Linda; Lonnie Sutton, and his wife Carlene; and Doyle Sutton; daughter-in-law, Janet Sutton; all of Waynesville; a sister, Kathleen Franklin, of the Bethel Community; 13 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, August 28, 2020 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Bryan Myers and Reverend David King officiating.  Burial will follow in the Sutton Family Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.  The service will be live streamed and is accessible through Ola’s obituary on Wells Funeral Home website to facilitate the ongoing focus on community safety and health.

The care of Mrs. Sutton has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
