Oles Cordell

Oles Haney Cordell, age 84, of Old 19-23 area passed away Friday, October 28, 2005 at St. Joseph's Hospital following a period of declining health. She was a native of Haywood County and resided in Buncombe County for most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Printus and Minnie Williams Haney. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray James Cordell who died in 1992; three sisters, Floy Cordell, Nita Stamey and Novie Gibson and one brother, Ralph Haney. She was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher. She was a talented basket-maker and avid gardener and loved flowers. She loved to read and was a wonderful cook and a great seamstress. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. She is survived by three daughters, Saundra Cordell of Asheville, Doris Ogle and Martha Cordell both of Greenville, SC; two sisters, Hazel Christopher of Canton and Ethel Brock of Slater-Marietta, SC; four grandchildren, Frank Parra and his wife, Alicia of Charlotte; Jim Ogle and his wife, Cyndi, Michael Ogle and Jessica Cordell all of Greenville, SC; a special niece, Sarah Mills of Canton and several other nieces and nephews and special friends, Pansy and Junior Griffin, who were a wonderful source of help during her last years at home. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 2005 at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jackie W. Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.
