Olive Wittman

Waynesville, Olive Ardelle Huber Wittman, age 92, of Rogers Cove Road passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at Smoky Mountain Healthcare Center. Olive was born on July 22, 1918, in Vandegrift, PA., and lived in Haywood County for the past seven years. She was the daughter of the late Frank Roswell and Nellie Viola Hinderliter Huber. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, of 65 years, James Smythe Wittman, Jr., who died in 2006; a sister, and two brothers. Olive was educated in Pennsylvania, and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Edinborough State Teachers College and continued her education at Western Kentucky University to earn her Masters Degree. Olive was employed with the Public School system in Carrollton, Georgia, as an Art Teacher. She was exceptionally talented artist and had a beautifully creative mind. Olive taught Sunday School and led VBS at Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Leitchfield, Ky, for approximately 20 years. Olive had a very strong faith and was a dedicated Christian. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesville. She is survived by three sons, James S. Wittman, III and his wife, Tuenjit, of Como, CO, Robert Wittman and his wife, Melissa, of San Antonio, TX and William Wayne Wittman and his wife, Mitzi, of Meshoppen, PA; three daughters, Ruth A. Sharpton and her husband, Bennie, of Waynesville, Margaret A. Langdon, of Townsend, DE, and Bette J. Harlow and her husband, Gary, of Bethlehem, PA, 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 8, 2010 in the Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Waynesville with Reverend Dr. Robert Prince officiating. Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday August 9, 2010 in the Western Carolina Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Sunday prior to the service. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Waynesville Building Fund, P.O.
