Ollie Lagarde

Ollie Mae Simmons (Lagarde), 93, of Candler, NC, passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the John F Keever Solace Center . She was a daughter of the late Florence Westall and Nick Simmons. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Fitz and Brian Simmons, sister, Clara Rice and nephews Freddy Rice and Randy Simmons.

Ollie served in the U.S. Naval Coast Guard during WWII, she moved to the Washington DC area where she met and fell in love with William J. Lagarde. Ollie loved the outdoors, she had fond memories of fishing with her Daddy and she loved to dance. In 1986 she retired and returned home to Candler, NC.

Survivors include her son, David B. Lagarde and wife Julia of MD, four brothers, John Simmons and wife Dolly of TN, Grady Simmons and wife Debbie of TN, James Simmons and wife Alma of Candler and Raymond Simmons and wife Enid of OR, three sisters, Grace Towles, Birdie Gilbert both of Candler and Isabelle Newcomb of AR.

Ollie will be greatly missed by her dear friend Kay Brittle of Wheaton MD , now Myrtle Beach. A warm thanks Sheila Miller of Candler. Sheila, you became a sister to me in the final week. No daughter could have loved my Mother more. Thank you so much for your thoughtful kindness and love for my Mother. A special thank you to Joyce Simmons, who visited often and was of great comfort to Ollie in her final days. Thank you to the wonderful people at Solace Center , the Doctors, Chaplin, Nurses, staff and to Ginger and other volunteers.
