July 12, 1933 — February 12, 2017

Waynesville, Oma Lee Gunter, age 83, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at her residence. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Elsie Sutton Long. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Gunter; one daughter, Robbie Mashburn; two sisters; and three brothers. Oma was a member of Grandview Baptist Church. She loved tending to her garden and canning. Whenever a friend or neighbor was in need, Oma was there to provide fresh vegetables and a shoulder to lean on. Oma will forever be remembered as a caring, wife, mother and grandmother. Oma is survived by one daughter, Jackie Sue Early, and her husband, Ronny, of Conover, North Carolina; one sister, Annie Allison, of Asheville; two brothers, Claude Long, of Waynesville, and Robert Long, of Cosby, Tennessee; a special son-in-law, Rick Mashburn; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park, with Reverend Barry Willet officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. Friday, at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
