Opal Farmer Stockton, age 84, of the Beaverdam Community, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Marion and Effie Mae Frizzell Farmer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lethel "L.B." Stockton, who died in 2007; two sisters; and one brother. Opal was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church and was active in her church's WMU Women's Missionary Union. She is survived by one daughter, Trudy West and her husband, Roger, of Asheville; three sons, David Stockton and his wife, Pam, Michael Stockton and his wife, Robin, and Keith Stockton and his wife, Kim, all of Canton; two sisters, Christine Littrell and her husband, Bob, of Canton, and Marie Heatherly of Candler; one brother, Kenneth Farmer of Canton; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2014 at Beaverdam Baptist Church with the Reverend Gene Worley and Reverend Harry Worley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. At other times, the family will be at Keith and Kim Stockton's residence, 111 Rivercrest Ct. in Canton. Memorials may be made to Beaverdam Baptist Church, 2524 Beaverdam Road, Canton, NC 28716.
