Waynesville, Ernestine "Tenny" Smith Sutton, age, 77, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at the Brian Center of Waynesville. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Vivian and Reba Elsie Cabe Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ray Thomas Sutton; two sisters, Nan Freeman and Fannie Parris and two brothers, Paul "Jack" Smith and William "John" Smith. Opal retired from Dayco Corporation and was a member of the Mountaineer Antique Auto Club of Waynesville. She loved to cook and especially enjoyed making homemade candy and was a member of Ninevah Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Pamela Sutton Ferguson, of Waynesville; one sister, Coleen Oxner, and her husband, Howell, Jr. of Clyde; one brother, Arthur "Bud" Smith and his wife, Cathy, of Winston Salem; one granddaughter, Sherri Ferguson Carver, and her husband, Heath, of Waynesville and one great-granddaughter, Heather Carver, of Waynesville and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2009 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Leslie officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Heath Carver, Sean and Ronnie Brookshire, Shane and Kenneth Gibson, Steve Siske and Roger Sutton. Serving as Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Mountaineer Antique Auto Club. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
