Othel Stiles

Othel Leonard "Jiggs" Stiles, 88, died Monday, April 2, 2007 at the Haywood Regional Medical Center in Waynesville. A native of Cherokee County, he was the son of the late Horace and Emma Gunter Stiles and had resided in Haywood County since the 1930's. He was preceded in death by a son, William Arthur Stiles. During World War II, Mr. Stiles was stationed in the Army at Norfolk, VA and served in an anti-aircraft battalion on Okinawa and later in Korea. Mr. Stiles was a member of Riverside Baptist Church and was a house painter by trade. Mr. Stiles is survived by his wife of 34 years, Bobbie Pressley Stiles. He is also survived by a niece, Phyllis Henderson; a great-niece, Brenda Cathy; and nephews, Gary Stiles and Everett Stiles. Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 5 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Johnny Foster and Reverend Mark Golden officiating. Burial will follow in Gwyn Cemetery in Cruso. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
