Oveida Pitts

Waynesville, On Monday, March 6, 2017, Oveida Banks Pitts entered her heavenly home. She was surrounded by her loving family as they gently sung "Stroll Over Heaven." A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Wilson and Nell Caroline King Banks. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Randall Wayne Pitts and a sister, Joan Carolyn Barnette. Oveida was a 1960 graduate of Canton High School. She and her husband were the former owners of Waynesville Exxon and Pitts Towing Company. She was a dedicated member of Bible Baptist Church. To know Oveida, you would quickly understand that she was "One of a Kind." Oveida was the "Ultimate Pisgah Fan" having supported Pisgah High School athletics through her children's participation and beyond. Oveida also enjoyed growing flowers and bird watching. Oveida is survived by her husband of 58 years, Wayne Hilliard Pitts; two daughters, Rhonda Ruth Byrd (Ronald), of Asheville and Alicia Gail Henson (Larry), of Waynesville; one brother, Reverend Dwight E. Banks (Mary Francis), of Waynesville; five grandchildren, Keisha Henson Jackson (Sam), Kasey Henson Brooks (Andrew), Cody David Henson (Anna), Jordan Wayne Pitts and Jonathan Tyler Pitts (Shondell); seven great-grandchildren, David Brooks, Layla and Lane Henson, Nellie Jackson, Dallas, Christian and Paige Pitts. Funeral services for Oveida will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Bible Baptist Church with her brother, Reverend Dwight Banks, and Reverend Raymond Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the church.
