Parleane "Shang" Cogburn, age 83, of Old River Road, died Saturday, September 27, 2008 at her residence. A life-long resident of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Parley and Essie Mason Cogburn. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Kuykendall and Betty Cooke. Shang retired from Wellco with 37 years of service and she also worked at Springdale Country Club. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She was a loving friend, sister, and aunt. She is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Wyatt of Canton; one half-sister, Johnnie Kinsland of Canton; two nephews, Hugh Kuykendall and Sam Cooke; seven nieces, Patricia Brookshire, Lillian Creasman, Katrina Cobb, Mary Lou Singleton, Linda Caldwell, Sheila Jones and Vickie Queen; and special caregivers, Anita Hannah, Nancy Holly, Sandra Sorrells, Vickie Allen and Kay Surrett. A graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at Long's Community Cemetery with Reverend Dr. Perry Brindley officiating. Wells Funeral Home of Canton was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to Long's Community Cemetery Maintenance Fund, c/o Charlie Evans, 587 Evans Road, Canton, NC 28716.
