Patricia Anne Cooper Edwards, 83, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Friday, April 9, 2021 at King’s Grant. She was born September 21, 1937 to the late Marshall Grover and Katherine Suttles Cooper. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Martinsville, Virginia. She was an educator for over 45 years, teaching in Ocala, Jacksonville and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and continued teaching after moving to Greenville, South Carolina. Upon her retirement, she moved to Martinsville to be near her family. Mrs. Edwards was very active in her church, participating in the choir and Senior’s group of which she was the president for 10 years. She was a devoted volunteer in the church Clothes Closet as well.
She was also a book club member, and a member of The Piedmont Arts Guild as well as the Retired Teachers Association of Henry County.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ben Edwards; brother, Geoffrey Cooper; and her brother-in-law, Bud Ostergard.
Mrs. Edwards leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Katherine Dietrich (Craig) and Karen Fahey (JJ); two sisters, Zelda Brierly and Llewellyn Ostergard; brother, Steve Cooper (Freda); sister-in-law Sandra Cooper; and five grandchildren, Joe Dietrich , Kate Dietrich and Lynn Dietrich, Tricia Fahey and Ridgely Fahey.
The family wishes to thank all her caregivers, especially those at home and at King’s Grant.
A graveside service is planned for September 2022 at Bon-A Venture Cemetery in Canton, NC.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Choir Fund or Clothes Closet of First United Methodist Church of Martinsville, 146 East Main Street, Martinsville, VA 24112.
The care of Mrs. Edwards has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
