Waynesville, Patricia Light "Pat" Ross, died Friday, September 28, 2012 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital. Born in Philadelphia, PA on June 30, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Arthur B. Light of the Lawrenceville School, Lawrenceville, New Jersey and a member of the Children of the American Revolution. Pat was preceded in death by her beloved husband Glenn V. Ross, M.D. in 1990. Pat graduated from the Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania in 1949 and then attended Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. She received her LPN Certificate from St. Francis Hospital in Trenton, New Jersey in 1959 and her Registered Nursing Degree from Corning Community College in New York in 1975 and her Criminal Justice Degree from Haywood Community College in Clyde, North Carolina in 1990. Pat was employed by the Arnot Ogden Hospital in Elmira, New York, Mariners Hospital on Plantation Key, Florida and the James Archer Smith Hospital in Homestead, Florida. For many years, she and her beloved husband practiced emergency medicine and had a private practice in the Keys and on the Mainland. Pat worked for the Haywood County Sheriff's Office as a secretary and Criminal Analyst for the Criminal Investigations Division since 1998 and also from 1991 to 1993. Pat was an instructor at Haywood Community College in three curriculums for 2 ½ years between 1993 and 1998. Surviving are her beloved three daughters, Ginny Pennell of Key Largo, Florida; Shelley and dear friend, Priscilla Sands; Sue Reich and her husband, Danny, of Plantation Key, Florida; five grandchildren; Darick Pennell, Alison Pennell Oughterson and her husband, Boone, Nicole Somberg Coombs and her husband, Daniel, Daniel Reich, and Stephanie Reich; four great-grandchildren, Weston Pennell, Tanner Reich, and Brahm and Lucus Coombs. The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 6, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Tim Lolley officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 90 Stiles Road, Canton, NC 28716.
