Patsy Conard

Waynesville, Patsy "Pat" S. Conard, age 75, passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Smoky Mountain Healthcare. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Leonard C. and Lucy Burnette Smith and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin C. and Robert Lee Smith and one sister, Dorothy Ford and her husband, DeRoy Ford. Pat was a woman of unbelievable courage, strength and endurance. Her rock was her Christian faith. She was known fondly by her grandchildren as "GranPat" and was selfless in all that she did always putting others before herself. She enjoyed spending time with her friends going shopping and was an amazing cook. Pat was especially known for her pastry chef skills demonstrated when making delicious pies and cakes. She was an active member and dedicated servant of Woodland Baptist Church where she was involved in the Hospitality Team and Vacation Bible School. She was one of only two church members that attended both the original church sanctuary and new church sanctuary dedications. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bobby Joe Conard; two sons, Dr. Joe Conard and his wife, Pat, of Clyde and Michael Conard and his fiancé, Dr. Schuyler Mims, of St. Louis, Missouri.; one daughter, Patty Mann and her husband, Reverend Timothy Mann of Daytona Beach, Florida; one sister, Mary Cagle and her husband, Doyle, of Waynesville; two sister-in-laws, Lillian Smith of Waynesville and Altha Smith of Balsam; three brothers, Joe Smith and his wife, Wilma, of Clyde, Benjamin Smith and his wife, Linda, of Horse Shoe, and John Smith and his wife, Betty, of Lake Junaluska; six grandchildren, Dr. Kathryn "Katie" Conard, Dr. Mark Conard, Amanda Mushlin and her husband, Matthew, Nathaniel Green and his wife, Tasha; and Cameron and Reagan Conard; and one great grandson on the way, Bryson Green. Funeral services will be held at Noon on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Woodland Baptist Church with Reverend Alan Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 28, 2011 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville and at other times, at the residence.
