Patsy Matthews

Cary, NC – Patsy Smiley Matthews, age 77, passed away on Saturday, September 03, 2011 at her residence. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late John Smiley, Sr. and Pearl Godfrey Smiley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Danny and John Smiley, Jr. and two sisters, Shirley Cary and Judy McElroy. She was a bank loan officer and a member of Ninevah Baptist Church. Patsy loved shopping for antiques, herbs and gardening, painting, arts and crafts, and stained glass. She restored an old home in the Elizabeth section of Charlotte and was featured in a local newspaper article on the Parade of Homes. She is survived by her husband of 16 years, Gary A. Matthews; one son, Jeffrey Snyder of Garner, North Carolina; one daughter, Lisa Warlick, of Cary; one stepson, Alan Matthews of Raleigh; two stepdaughters, Bonny White and Sherry Bryant, both of Garner; three sisters, Emily Partin of Arden and Carol Moore and Linda Hulin, both of Raleigh; one grandchild, Brandy Marie Snyder; and six step-grandchildren, Bradley, Ashley, Lacey, Landon, Aaron, and Parker. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Leslie officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
