Waynesville, Patsy Jane Rogers Underwood, 89, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Charlotte Square in Charlotte.

She was born September 9, 1931 in Clyde, North Carolina the daughter of the late Jerry Morgan Rogers and Eva Blackwell Rogers.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Carol Keith Underwood; and a brother Harold Rogers.  Patsy graduated from Waynesville Township High School and attended Mars Hill College.  She was a life-long member of Hazelwood Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School Teacher.  Patsy retired from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction as an Administrative Assistant.  Upon her retirement she received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, awarded to persons who have made significant contributions to the state and their communities through exemplary service and exceptional accomplishments.

Patsy is survived by three daughters and their families, Leigh Ann Reep, of Waynesville; Pam and her husband, Terry Hartnett, of Charlotte and their daughters Hannah, of Wilmington, North Carolina and Rileigh, of Charlotte.  Patty and her husband Buddy Little, of Charlotte, and their daughter, Morgan and her husband, Christian Hunt.  Patsy had one great-grandson, Ryden Thomas Hunt; brother-in-law, Kenneth M. Underwood.

A private graveside service will be held at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with Reverend Tim Lolley officiating.  Serving as pallbearers will be Terry Hartnett, Buddy Little, Christian Hunt, Mark Ethridge, Greg Messer and Jason Buchanan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hazelwood Baptist Church, 265 Hazelwood Avenue, Waynesville, NC 28786.

The care of Mrs. Underwood has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
