Waynesville-Paul E. Gaddis, age 77, of 43 Playground Street, died Sunday, May 23, 2004 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Hattie D. Gaddis. He was a US Marine veteran of the Korean War and retired from Wellco as a security guard after 25 years employment. He was also in car sales at Medford Motors for 12 years. He enjoyed fixing anything that was not working, especially cars. He was a member of Barberville Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Velma Gunter Gaddis; a daughter, Velma G. Dixon and her husband, Lowell, of Canton; one grandson, Eddie Best, of Jacksonville, NC; two granddaughters, Bridgett Stamey and her husband, Michael, of Candler and Stacy Smathers, and her husband, Phillip, of Canton; and one great-granddaughter, Darian Smathers. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at Green Hill Cemetery with Reverend Jack Roberts officiating. Military services will be conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47.
