Paul Glenn, Jr.

May 6, 1940 — October 6, 2014

Waynesville, Paul Howell Glenn, Jr. passed away on October 6, 2014 at his home in Waynesville, North Carolina. He was born May 6, 1940 in Decatur, Alabama to Paul H. and Ruth S. Glenn. Howell was raised on his family's farm in Alabama, an interest that remained his entire life. His early experience on the farm expressed itself through his joy in seeing a project through to completion and his entrepreneurial spirit. He attended Samford University, and then graduate school at the University of Alabama where he received his Master of Science. He was an early promoter of the computer industry, devoting his professional life to systems development, beginning with his work on the Redstone Rocket and finishing with ownership of a computer programming firm, Software Enterprises. His personal life centered around a passion for missions: his work with Habitat for Humanity, Operation Christmas Child, Campus Crusade, and numerous mission trips overseas in addition to the many philanthropic gifts over his lifetime. He will be remembered for his commitment to his faith, his love of travel & learning, and the handiwork he leaves for us through the homes he built. He is survived by his wife, Charlene Segrest Glenn; his four children & spouses: Gretchen (Tom) Pascoe, Lara (Marc) Adelberger, Claire (Rob) Farnell, and Scott Wieteska; his seven grandchildren: Haley Farnell, Briland Farnell, Rhett Farnell, Nate Pascoe, Drew Pascoe, Paige Adelberger and Megan Adelberger; and his three siblings & spouses: E. Eugene (Rita) Glenn, Mary Paul (Wayne) Carpenter and Edward C. (Jef) Glenn. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 13, 2014 at Roselawn Funeral Home in Decatur, Alabama with Reverend Dr. Dick Maples officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Waynesville, North Carolina with Reverend Dr. Robert Prince officiating. The family will receive guests from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. prior to services at the church. Dear to Howell's heart were the ministries of Operation Christmas Child and Haywood County Habitat for Humanity. Memorial gifts may be sent to Operation Christmas Child, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 or Haywood Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 283, Waynesville, NC 28786.
