Waynesville, Paul Layton Johnson, age 79, of Red Maple Drive, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2014. He was born in Kewanee, Illinois and had resided in Haywood County for the past 16 years. He was the son of the late Harold Russell and Eva Evelyn Johnson. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by two brothers, Alan and Ronald Johnson. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Paul retired as a Communication Engineer at Kennedy Space Center. He was always using his hands, be it modifying vehicles to his specifications, fishing for bass, or his new found passion, quilting. Many of his quilts were donated to children with cancer. Paul also was an enthusiast for NASCAR. He was a member of the High Country Quilters Guild and Maggie United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ann Paschall Johnson; two daughters, Theresa Kroning and her husband, Paul , of Cocoa, Florida and Brenda Vinson of Loganville, Georgia; a son, Steven Johnson of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
