Paul Shell, born on May 23, 1944, in Harlan, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on November 9 2024, in Candler, North Carolina. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, and cherished memories that will forever resonate in the hearts of his family and friends.
Paul had a rewarding career with Gunite in Rockford, Illinois, where he dedicated his time until his well-deserved retirement in 2009. His work ethic was mirrored by the vast love he shared with everyone around him. A man with a heart of gold, Paul embodied kindness and generosity, always making himself available to lend a hand to family, friends, and even those he hardly knew. His warm presence and infectious love of life drew people near, and it is said that there was no one quite like Paul.
Known for his engaging stories, Paul delighted in sharing family anecdotes and creating an environment of joy and laughter at gatherings. Each interaction was filled with his loving spirit, reminding them of the importance of family bonds and shared moments.
Outside of family, Paul found joy in various hobbies. He had a particular fondness for old cars and could often be found attending classic car shows, reveling in the beauty of nostalgia. An avid collector, he cherished antiques and memorabilia, especially baseball caps, each holding its own special story. Cookouts and family get-togethers brought him immense pleasure, where laughter and storytelling flowed as freely as the food.
Paul is survived by his children and several grandchildren, alongside his sister, Betty Alexander, and brothers, Denvis and George David Shell. He is also remembered fondly by numerous nieces and nephews whose lives he touched with his joyous spirit.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Solomon and Celia Kelly Shell, as well as his sister, Freda Shell, and brother, Leroy Shell. Though they are no longer by his side, Paul’s love and memories will forever remain close to those left behind.
As we reflect on Paul's life, we celebrate a man who exemplified love, kindness, and the very essence of what it means to be family. Everyone who knew Paul is better for it, and while he will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A private burial will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Candler, North Carolina.
