Paul Stephen Young, 39, of Canton NC, passed away unexpectedly on February 5, 2025.
Paul was born on December 3, 1985, in Langhorne. Pa. Paul graduated from North Buncombe High School. He furthered his education, graduating from Western Carolina University with a Bachelors in Criminal Justice. He proceeded to go to Appalachian Law School but soon realized his heart was not in a career in the criminal justice field. He then went to A-B Tech, and his passion for cooking was realized. It was after graduating from here that a rewarding and satisfying career blossomed and gave him fulfillment.
Paul has worked at many prestigious locations, including Wade Hampton Country Club, Lake Logan Retreat Center, Springdale Resort, and finally landing at The Ascot Club. It was this last post where he found his tight-knit work family.
Paul was a joyous, light-hearted, clever, compassionate, empathetic, and quite humorous individual, all while consistently being a skilled and dedicated chef. In the kitchen, he strived to run an environment where he could pass on his knowledge to those working with him and bring a dining experience to all who came to partake in the culinary delights he brought to the table.
Paul was predeceased by his fraternal grandparents, Charles and Margaret Young; maternal grandfather, Kenneth Ritchey, and nephew. Hunter. He leaves those to mourn, his father, Kevin Young (Sandra): mother, Shari Rogers (Terry); brother, Thomas Young (Kelsey); sisters, Victoria and Olivia Young; stepsisters, Brittany Mann and Amanda Delgado; stepbrothers, Matthew and Brandon Rogers, and two nieces, Jessica and Mackenzie. There is a large, tight-knit group of aunts, uncles and cousins that loved and shared so much of his life that they will dearly miss Paul.
He is also survived by many friends, whose lives he has touched in many ways.
Paul is also survived by his loyal companion. Fang. As any pet would do for their human. Fang gave Paul great comfort and love. Fang was loyal with Paul until the end.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home, 296 N. Main Street, Waynesville, NC. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
