Pauline "Cookie" Gamble, a beloved member of her family and the community, passed away on October 13, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on July 25, 1943, Cookie was known for her warmth, dedication, and vibrant spirit that touched the lives of many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Barney D. Kelly, Sr. and Robbie Wright Kelly; her sister, Mary Culley; and her brother, George "Buddy" Kelly. Their memories live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Cookie had a fulfilling career as the Housekeeping Manager at Presbyterian Home, where she took immense pride in her job. Her commitment to excellence was evident in the way she approached her work, ensuring that her environment was always welcoming and well-maintained.
A woman of many interests, Cookie found joy in flower gardening and was a devoted Gamecock fan. She had a passion for cooking, often sharing her culinary creations with family and friends, further showcasing her nurturing nature. Her love for travel was highlighted by her annual visits to Elvis' Graceland, a tradition she cherished, especially while traveling with her husband, Joseph "J.M." Gamble.
Cookie is survived by her husband, Joseph "J.M." Gamble; her sons, Lew Haynes, Mark Haynes (Michelle), and Will Dye (Wendy); her sister, Terri Brazel; her brother, Barney D. Kelly, Jr. Family was of the utmost importance to Cookie, and her proudest accomplishments were the special moments spent with her loved ones. She deeply adored her six grandchildren, Miranda (Nathan), Jayleen (Daniel), Dakota, Breigh, Maddie, Ellie, Ashlyn, and Sean and her two great-grandchildren, Brentley and Mia. The connections she cultivated with her family were a source of joy and fulfillment throughout her life.
Cookie Gamble will be remembered for her loving spirit, her dedication to her family, and her countless contributions to those around her. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her.
A memorial mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 14th, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3512 Devine Street, Columbia, SC 29205 with Monsignor Richard Harris and Rev. Dr. W. Becket Soule, OP officiating.
The care of Mrs. Gamble has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville, NC
