Pauline Medford

Pauline Davis Medford, age 97, of Broad Street died Thursday, January 1, 2009, at her residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Wiley Vinson and Ethel James Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred L. Medford, who died in 2005; a sister, Mazie Justice; two brothers Jack and Joe Davis; and a grandson, Duane Coleman Hall. She was a member of Clyde First Baptist Church and the manager of Clyde school cafeteria for 25 years, and she was also an employee of America Enka. She is survived by two daughters, Nina Hall and her husband, Ronald, of Greer, SC and Joretta Starr of Waynesville; four sisters, Valarie Ferguson of Whittier, Lucille Brooks of Candler, Hilda Wynn of Harrisburg, PA, and Margaret Tompkins of Clyde; two brothers, Bill Davis of Clyde and Jim Davis of Waynesville; five grandchildren, Rhonda Cartee of Greer, SC, Dr. John Lane Hall and his partner, Richard Anderson, of Pacifica, CA; Sandra Sutton and her husband, Michael, of Prattville, AL; Shelley Higgins and her husband, Tony, of Leicester, and Susan Gregory, who was also her special caregiver, and her husband, Rick, of Waynesville; three great-grandchildren, Lindsay and Elizabeth Sutton both of Prattville, AL and Anna Gregory Bell and her husband, Jeffery, of Durham; and close friends, Gene and Dottie Messer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2009, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. David Phillips, Reverend James Parham, and Reverend Alan Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
