Waynesville-Pearl Phillips Owens, age 84, of 862 Cove Creek Road, died Monday, December 06, 2004 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Templeton Phillips and Fronie Messer Phillips. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Owens, who died in 1978; a brother, Earl Phillips; a sister, Mattie Owens; a grandson, Gary Davis ; and a great grandson, Cameron Brendle. She loved flower gardening, quilting, and canning, but most of all she loved her grandchildren. She was a member of Cove Creek Baptist Church and was an active member of the Adult Women's Sunday School Class. She is survived by four daughters, Beulah Davis, Helen Waldron and her husband, Fred, Rachel Long, and Shirley Owens, all of Waynesville; two sisters, Annie McElroy and Macel Gaddis, both of Waynesville; a brother, Albert Phillips, of Bryson City; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at Cove Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Billy Ferguson, Reverend Bobby Rogers, and Reverend Matthew Carver officiating. Burial will follow at Owens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at Wells Funeral Homes and Cremation Services of Waynesville. At other times, the family will be at the residence. Serving as pallbearers will be David Long, Mike and Brian Davis, Bryan Chambers, Ofellio Price, and Troy Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be Verlon Messer, Billy Goodson, and Kerwin Cagle. Memorials may be made to Cove Creek Church Building Fund, 1397 Cove Creek Road, Waynesville, NC 28785.
