Waynesville-Frances Pearl Justice Yates, age 93, of 55 Yates Cove Road, died Sunday, May 18, 2003 at her residence.
A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Fuller Allison Justice and Frances Falsom Walker Justice and the granddaughter of the late Albert and Mattie McCracken Walker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Oral L. Yates who died in 1987; a brother, Albert Jackson Justice; and a sister, Catheryn Justice Winchester. She attended Mars Hill College and received her B.A. and Master Degrees from Western Carolina University. She was a schoolteacher for 38 years in the Haywood County School System and retired in 1975. She was a charter member of Alpha Rho Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Society, a member of the Retired Teachers Organization, United Methodist Woman, Haywood West Gideon's Auxiliary, and a member of Crabtree United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening and reading.
She is survived by a daughter, Frances Jaynes of Waynesville, a son, O.L. Yates, Jr. and his wife, Linda of Waynesville; a sister, Sarah Justice Campbell, of Waynesville; four grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2003 at Crabtree United Methodist Church with Reverend Ned Martin, Reverend W. T. Medlin, and Reverend David Reeves officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
