Peggy Buchanan

Waynesville, Peggy Rathbone Buchanan, age 59, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 28, 2007 after a brief battle with cancer. She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, and the daughter of Louise Rathbone of Waynesville and the late Frank Rathbone. She was a Professor of Business at Haywood Community College for 30 years, retiring in 2000, and was later employed at Waynesville Pharmacy. Peggy loved being a Nanny and playing with her grandchildren and also loved to travel. She was a member of Ratcliffe Cove Baptist Church. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 39 years, Perry Buchanan; two daughters, Kristy Thompson and her husband, Greg, and Kim Bowen and her husband, Kevin; one sister, Carole Smith and her husband, Terry; one brother, Stan Rathbone and his wife, Shirley; and three grandchildren, Cody and Chloe Thompson and Kamea Bowen, all of Waynesville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2008 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jay Jones and Reverend Eddie Deitz officiating. Entombment will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Mausoleum. Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Bowen, Greg Thompson, Don Hughey, Bobby Grasty, David Messer, Ricky Burnette and honorary pallbearers will be Tom Ray and Jonathan Messer. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
